Convergence is a showcase of three artists’ works based on their experiences in artist residencies abroad. From East to West, the artists count China, Norway, Finland, Belgium and USA amongst the countries they’ve spent time in, working on their art and interacting with the local community. Having gone away, they come together with new energies, inspirations, directions and methods of working.

The artists participated in residencies ranging from one to two months, all of which allowed for undisrupted time to create and the freedom to experiment. The unfamiliar surroundings also provided great impetus for renewed directions in their work processes and art practice. Convergence suggests how all three artists went away to different corners of the earth, to come together bringing back new perspectives. The show will be held at two venues—Telok Kurau Studios gallery and instinc.

instinc will showcase the process and experiences accumulated during the artists’ time spent on residencies. These will include sketches, studies, journals, photographs—all of which will give an insight into the journey that resulted in the artists’ new works. Set within the studio setting of the artist-run instinc space, this venue simulates the experience of experimentation within a workspace.

Telok Kurau Studios gallery will showcase the completed works done by the artists while on residency, as well as new works inspired thereafter.
